Playing Card Design: Duality in Romeo + Juliet

For this project I had to create a playing card design centered around a character from history or literature. I chose to focus on the story Romeo and Juliet, and more specifically the theme of duality. The illustration on the left shows a flowery vine growing around the star-crossed lovers, but looking more closely you can see there are thorns protruding and nearly penetrating the characters. Going along with the theme I chose the two of hearts for the back of the card and kept the black and white contrast going for consistency in theme.
